Browne | John William | | Major | BROWNE, JOHN WILLIAM, Major, served in the South African War in 1902. He was mentioned in Despatches; created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 31 October 1902]: "John William Browne, Major, Cape Police. In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa". Major Browne was District Inspector, Cape Mounted Police. He died about 1914.
