HONOURING A RETURNED SOLDIER.

Sgt. C.C. CATINE, of the second contingent, S.A.M.I., who returned from South Africa a short time ago, has been made the recipient of a valuable gold medal, suitably inscribed, together with the following address: — ''To Sgt. C.C. Castine. Dear Sir and Friend — We the undersigned residents of Auburn desire you to accept the accompanying gift as a small token of our appreciation of the services yon have rendered, for King and country, as a member of the Second South Australian Contingent, in connection with the South African war. We admired the patriotic spirit that prompted you to enlist in the campaign. During your absence we watched with interest your movements, and now we heartily congratulate you on your safe return to home and friends. We feel sure that should the necessity arise you would again respond to the call of duty. Wishing you every happiness and prosperity in the future. — We are, dear sir, &c. Here follow 34 signatures. Sgt. CASTINE highly values and appreciates these kind and thoughtful remembrances the inhabitants of Auburn, his native place, have forwarded to him.
