SUBURBAN WELCOME.

The residents of Boroondara assembled in large numbers at the Shire Hall, Camberwell, on Wednesday evening, the 3rd inst., when a concert was held in honour of the soldiers who hailed from Boroondara and lately returned from the war in South Africa. Prior to the concert a torchlight procession was held, comprised of members of the local rifle corps, cadets, and others, which headed by the Hawthorn City Brass Band, paraded the principal thoroughfares. The president of the shire (Councillor H. Rooks) presided at the concert, and Mrs William Knox presented medals to the following members, who were connected with the various contingents which took part in the war, viz., Privates E. CHIRON, E. ZIESCHE, A.E. BURT, T. MASON, S. COCHRAN, F.S. BROWN, W. BROWN, C.W. TOWT, and C. BANKS. Private J.C. HUGHES, a member of the naval contingent which proceeded to China, was also presented with a medal. A programme of songs and recitations was rendered by well-known artists, and the proceedings were most enthusiastic throughout. The celebration was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
