PRESENTATION. - There was a very pleasant gathering at the Red Lion on Tuesday evening, when Trooper Percy MANNING was entertained at dinner and a presentation made to him. Mr J. Barrett occupied the chair, and among those present were Messrs. J.A. McLean, O.V. Aplin, G. Danes, T.D. Denchfield, F. French, T. Simpson, W. Bradford, R.H. Fowler, W. Hall, E. Clifton, C. Cunningham, J. Clements, J. Gascoigne (Banbury), &c. An excellent dinner was served, at the conclusion of which the loyal toasts were given and duly honoured. The "Imperial Forces" was the next toast, and was responded to by Sergt. Lovick and Trooper White (Banbury), Trooper Harris, and Private Butler, whose names were coupled with the toast. On behalf of the subscribers the Chairman presented Trooper P. MANNING (son of Mr. G. Manning, bandmaster Bloxham Brass Band) with a handsome gold chain and pendant. The pendant bore the following inscription: "Presented from the inhabitants of Bloxham, in their grateful acknowledgment of his services in the South African War", Trooper MANNING being in the field about eighteen months. In reply Trooper MANNING thanked all the subscribers for their kindness in presenting him with such a handsome present, which he should always value, and also for the reception given him on his return to Bloxham from South Africa. He also thanked Mr. R. Emerson for kindly collecting the subscriptions. Various other toasts were drunk interspersed with songs, Mr. Gus Hunter (Banbury) ably presiding at the piano. The meeting broke up at eleven o'clock, an hour's extension having been granted.
