BINGLEY’S FIGHTING SONS.
WAR MEMORIALS UNVEILED.
At Bingley on Saturday gold medals were presented to the men who volunteered for active service in the South African war, and memorials, one to those who lost their lives, and the other recording the names of the whole of the men who volunteered for service, were unveiled.
Lieutenant-General Sir Leslie Rundle, the commanding officer of the Northern Division duly performed the duty of unveiling the memorials and presenting the medals to the men. [A] Service was first held in the Bingley Parish Church, where an address was given by the Rev. A.V. Magee, vicar of Gargrave. The memorial is of marble, and records the names of Troopers A. HOLMES, D. SMITH, and WILD, three members of the Yeomanry who died. During the service this tablet was unveiled by General Rundle who was received on arriving at the church from St Ives (where he had been the guest of Mr W. Ferrand) by a guard of honour of the local Rifle Volunteers, under Captain Ramsden. From the church the Rifle Volunteers proceeded to the Town Hall, followed by members of the Bingley District Council, the guests, and the members of the Patriotic Fund Committee. Here in the reading-room of the hall has been placed a brass tablet, of very pretty design, bearing the names of the men who served, as follows: –
