Trooper QUINLIVAN, of the Citizens' Bushmen's Contingent, who has just returned from South Africa, received a magnificent reception at Central Tilba on Friday night at the School of Arts Hall, which was filled with the leading citizens. Mr S.W. Bate was in the chair, on the right the guest of the evening, on the left being Trooper SYMONDS, of the Mounted Rifles, Bega, who also recently returned from the war. Among the speakers were: Messrs Rumph, Lambert, Corkhill, and Crapp. Both the returned warriors received an enthusiastic ovation, and the hall was tastefully decorated with flags and patriotic mottoes. The chairman, on behalf of the people, presented QUINLIVAN with a gold pendant suitably inscribed. In replying he gave a short account of his experience in South Africa, including a graphic description of the defence of Elaand's River. Trooper SYMONDS also responded, and a splendid reception was given him. Refreshments were provided by the ladies of the district. Dancing was indulged in till the early hours of the morning. The recipient took part in all the engagements of the Bushmen throughout the campaign, and came off unscathed.
