Gold appendage & albert, suitably inscribed, to:

Mr M. LECK

Presentation made by Mr Robson (stationmaster), at Coldstream Station.

"He wished him health to wear the albert, and prosperity in his new sphere of labour in South Africa".

Although this report appears under the heading "The War", the above suggests Leck was leaving for South Africa for employment, and not as an active serviceman.

COLDSTREAM.

Presentation. – An interesting presentation took place at the Railway Station on Friday week, when Mr M. LECK, signalman, who is leaving for South Africa, was made the recipient of a handsome gold albert and appendage, with suitable inscription, also a purse of gold. Mr E. Cuthbert, signalman, occupied the chair. Mr Robson, stationmaster, in making the presentation, referred to the sterling qualities of Mr LECK, and said they were all sorry to lose such an esteemed and valued fellow-worker. On behalf of the subscribers he wished him every success and prosperity in his new sphere, and hoped he would long have good health to wear the albert. Mr LECK feelingly replied, stating he would always appreciate their kindness. An hour or two was afterwards spent with songs, etc., the contributors to the programme being Messrs LECK, Gilroy, Logan, Cuthbert, Johnston, Richardson, Dalgleish, and Laurie.
