THE RETURNED YEOMANRY. – An interesting and enthusiastic gathering took place at Hartham Park, Corsham, on Saturday, when a representative county assemblage – headed by the High Sheriff (Mr C. Awdry), in the unavoidable absence of the Lord Lieutenant of the County – met together to welcome home the members of the 1st, 2nd and 63rd Companies of Imperial Yeomanry from South Africa. The weather was very fine excepting a sharp shower, and the large company enjoyed themselves exceedingly. Sir John Dickson-Poynder’s lovely domain, with its undulating Park and grand old trees, was looking its very best, and as the company moved about to the strains of the Yeomanry band, under the leadership of Mr H.J. Morris, the scene was a bright and inspiriting one. Interesting stage performances took place on a specially arranged platform, and were keenly appreciated. Major Goddard was in charge of the arrangements, and is to be congratulated on the very large measure of success that attended his efforts. A capital dinner was partaken of, and medals were presented to the men.
