HOME FROM THE WAR.

CAMPERDOWN. – A public presentation of mementoes to returned district soldiers took place on Monday evening. The Mechanics’ Hall was crowded, and the proceedings were marked by great enthusiasm. The president of the shire, Councillor H.P. Coy, presided, and seats on the platform were also occupied by Mr J.C. Manifold, M.H.R., Mr D.S. Oman, M.L.A., Councillor Robinson, Mr J.B. Phillips (shire secretary), who acted as secretary for the movement, Mr G. Morrison, Lance-Corporal COOPER, Troopers JONES, HAY, and McKENZIE, the four returned soldiers, who were to participate in the presentation, Major Dallimore, Sergeant Satchwell, Lance-Corporal Burke, Corporals Hill and Ireland, Troopers Woods and Younger, other returned soldiers, and a number of members of the rifle club and cadet corps. Addresses were delivered by Messrs Manifold, M.H.R., Oman, M.L.A., D. Paine, Phillips, Councillor Robinson, and the chairman. The presentations, which were subscribed for by the townspeople, were made by the chairman, and consisted of a gold chain and pendant, suitably inscribed, for each of the four men. The recipients acknowledged the gifts, and others of the returned soldiers present also spoke. A musical programme was rendered by local vocalists and instrumentalists.
