B COMPANY, 5TH V.B.R.S.

The men of the above Company who have volunteered for the front were presented at Glencorse this week with handsome gold badges. Captain Mouat, in making the presentation, said it was very creditable indeed that such a large number of men should have come forward from one company, and he was sure they would always be a credit to his Company in whatever position they might be placed. He wished them every success and a safe return. The following are the names of the men: – Corporal J. GOODALL, Privates J. COMBE, J. FLETCHER, M. BISHOP, T. GRANT, A. FAIRLEY, J. LAING, and T. ROBERTSON.

B COMPANY, 5TH V.B. THE ROYAL SCOTS.

COMRADES FROM THE FRONT.

B Company 5th V.B. the Royal Scots gave a very successful smoking concert in the Old Ship Hotel, Leith, last night, to celebrate the return of Corporal HUTCHISON and Lance-Corporal BENNETT from the front. Captain Mouat, in bidding them welcome, said the officers and men of the company were very pleased to have them back again. The experience which they had gained would be useful not only to themselves but to their comrades in the ranks. The large number of men who had gone to the front from B Company was something of which they were all proud. Both officers and men. No fewer than 28 men of the company went to the front as Volunteers, Yeomen, and South African Police, while many others had joined the Regulars and Militia. He had now pleasure, in the name of the company, in presenting their two comrades with a gold badge, which he hoped would be an acceptable memento of their service in South Africa, the hardships of which he hoped would be blotted from their memory, and only the pleasant incidents remain.

Corporals HUTCHISON and BENNETT returned thanks, and said they were glad to be back again in the ranks of the Fighting Fifth. A long and varied programme of songs and recitations was then carried through, with much enjoyment. The badges, which were much admired, had suitable inscriptions, and were designed and furnished by Mr D. Brown, jeweller, Duke Street.
