OFF TO THE WAR.
Presentations to City Imperial Volunteers.
An interesting little ceremony took place on Monday last, in the workshops of Messrs J. Bolding and Sons, Ltd., when Private Harry PARSONS, an employee of the firm, was presented with a handsome gold medal suitably inscribed, on his leaving the works for South Africa, in the ranks of the City Imperial Volunteers. Mr J. Wilson, in a few appropriate remarks, handed Harry the present, and so well had his shopmates responded to the appeal. That after settling for the medal, a good sum remained, which was also presented in a purse to our friend. The presentation also included a box of chocolate from a lady enthusiast. The recipient, after thanking all for their great kindness and honour conferred upon him, then left the works amidst showers of farewells and hearty good wishes for a safe voyage and speedy return. Harry will be much missed, not only in the workshops, but also in the cricket field, where his absence will be keenly felt during the coming season. Last year he came out top of the averages. This season, we have not the least doubt, should opportunity occur, instead of bowling down the pitch at Willesden he will be bowling some of our enemies over in the Transvaal, for Harry is a first-rate marksman and a more genial and good-natured fellow it would indeed be hard to find. Good luck to you Private Harry PARSONS!
