A RETURNED SOLDIER.
Maldon.
Private E.E. WATERSON, of the Second Victorian Contingent, who recently returned to Maldon from the South African war, where he was laid aside with enteric fever, after taking part in many important engagements, was on Monday night tendered a welcome home by the I.O.R., of which he is a member. The gathering took place in the Temperance Hall, and was crowded to the doors, Bro. J. Dunkin, C.R., presiding. During the evening Private WATERSON was presented with a handsome gold medal, on behalf of the Members of the lodge. The recipient suitably returned thanks. He is still weak after his recent severe illness. Private PAYNE was also present, and was well received. Private WATERSON's friends at Baringhup are also making arrangements for a suitable welcome.

Private F. WATERSON, of Maldon, who recently returned from the South African war, was given a reception last Monday evening, and presented with a gold medal by the I.O.R. Society and residents of Maldon. When he left for the war with the Second Contingent he took his departure from Inglewood, where he had been for some time managing a small cyanide plant. He was very favourably known in the town.
