PRESENTATION AT MAYFIELD.
On Saturday last at large number of the residents of Mayfield and district assembled together at a pretty wattle spot in Mr Cook's paddock to witness a presentation and enjoy themselves at a picnic given by local friends to our returned soldiers, Troopers Fred and George STURGISS, who were for fifteen months in South Africa at the war. A gold medal with inscription and gent's travelling roll we presented by Mr J. Roberts to each of the returned soldiers. Trooper Fred STURGISS then thanked his friends for the esteem shown to his brother and himself and for their kind presentation. At midday a luncheon was partaken of and everybody did justice to the good things provided. After luncheon our school teacher (Miss Smee) gathered her pupils, and they sang Soldiers of the King very creditably. Games of all kinds and dancing were indulged in until sunset. A dance took place in the evening.
