THE RETURN OF THE MONTGOMERYSHIRE IMPERIAL YEOMANRY.
Welshpool on Friday was the theatre for a scene which will be long memorable to all who took part in it, the occasion being the reunion and public welcome home of the gallant fellows who formed the 31st and 49th Companies of the Montgomeryshire Imperial Yeomanry and the Service Section of the 5th V.B. S.W.B. That all the men who represented the county in South Africa were not sons of Cambria mattered not; as is well known, volunteers came from east, west, south, and north when the call was sounded, but by enlisting themselves under the banner of the Lord Lieutenant of the County, they all became sons by adoption, at any rate, and proud of their distinguished services at the front, Montgomeryshire opened her arms wide to receive them on their return, after an absence of nearly two years, to the town in which they were enrolled.
On their arrival in the morning the men were received at the Railway Station by the Countess of Powis (Who was accompanied by Lord Clive), and by the Lord Lieutenant, Sir William Wynn. The roll was then called, and afterwards the companies marched to the Castle Park, where the first item of the day’s programme took place. Greater eclat would have been given the entry of the men in khaki into the town had arrangements been made for the Yeomanry and their band and the local volunteers to escort them from the station, instead of waiting their arrival elsewhere. As it was the march through the town was somewhat colourless; there was no cheering, and the only welcome given to the returned warriors was the silent greeting conveyed by the bunting which decorated the buildings. …….
THE LUNCHEON.
……. The procession re-formed on Church Bank and marched to the Town Hall.
The Mayor (Mr C. Shuker) presided at the luncheon which was served in the Assembly Room. …….

MEDALS FOR AN ESSEX YEOMAN.
Mr F.H. KING, of Thundersley, late of the Welsh Imperial Yeomanry, and sergeant of the Prince of Wales’ Light Horse, was on Friday the recipient of the South African War medal at the presentation which took place in the Town Hall, Welshpool. The Countess of Powis, with Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn, Bart., also presented each man with a bronze medal, the gift of the county of Montgomeryshire.

LORD KITCHENER AT WELSHPOOL.
AN ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION.
On Saturday the town of Welshpool was gaily decorated, and thousands of people visited the borough to witness the presentation of South African war medals by Lord Kitchener to the 88th and 89th Companies Montgomeryshire Imperial Yeomanry and those Reservists and Militia of the South Wales Borderers connected with the county by birth or by residence. The ceremony had been fixed for the previous day, but owing to Lord Kitchener’s call to London to meet the Boer Generals with Mr Chamberlain, the function had to be postponed to Saturday. …….
A Public Luncheon.
After the service in the church, luncheon was served in the Town Hall. The High Sheriff (Mr Hugh Lewis) presided …….
Having referred to Lord Kitchener’s kindness in making a special journey from London to distribute the medals, Lord Powys suggested that the names of the volunteers from Montgomeryshire should be emblazoned on the walls of the Town Hall as an incentive to the youth of the country to follow in the footsteps of those who had gone before them. (Applause). …….
……. Mis Williams-Wynn, daughter of the Lord-Lieutenant, then distributed the county medals to the Yeomanry.
