The reception to Troopers LANGE (2) and GROFSKI (2), of the Fifth Contingent, by the residents of Marshland, was held last Friday evening. The schoolroom was crowded, over two hundred people sitting down to supper, laid by Mr Edwards. The chairman, Mr A. Malcolm, extended a hearty welcome to the troopers, and on behalf of the public of the district, presented each of the troopers with a gold Maltese cross, suitably engraved. Trooper J. GROFSKI, on behalf of himself and his comrades, responded. Trooper TOBMAN, one of the visiting troopers, recounted some of his experiences in South Africa, after which several patriotic songs were sung, and cheers were given for the returned troopers. Dancing, games and other amusements were then kept up till a late hour.
