MORTDALE.
Thursday.
Corporal DEVENE, of the New South Wales Mounted Infantry, who returned from South Africa by the Orient, after an absence of 15 months, was welcomed by the citizens of Mortdale at a smoke concert. There were about 150 persons present. In response to the toast of “Our Guest”, Mr DEVENE referred at length to his experiences at the front, which proved of a very interesting character. During the evening, Mr Gaites, on behalf of the citizens of Mortdale, presented Mr DEVENE with a silver medal.
