When Trooper J. LAMB, of the Bushmen's Contingent, went on board the Atlantian yesterday, he was met by Messrs H. Douglas and R. McLaren, who had just arrived from Newcastle as the representatives of the permanent way railway employees of that city, empowered to make a presentation to him as one of their late colleagues The presentation took the form of a gold albert and pendant, suitably inscribed, as well as a pocket compass, and the following address: – "On behalf of your companions in the Permanent Way Department, and other friends in Newcastle, we desire to express to you our good wishes for your future on the eve of your departure with the New South Wales Bushmen's Contingent for South Africa, and desire you to accept the accompanying gifts as a token of our esteem and regard, and wishing you God speed. We feel confident you are worthy of the colony you represent". Trooper LAMB, in a feeling speech, cordially thanked Messrs Douglas and McLaren, and through them the donors of the gifts for their kind remembrance.
