In appreciation of the bravery shown by Private John BROOKS, of Mansfield, at Rensburg, South Africa, in rescuing Lieutenant ROBERTS, of Nathalia, after he had been mortally wounded, the relations of the deceased officer presented him with a gold locket, bearing the following inscription: – “From relatives of Lieutenant Roberts, in appreciation of kindness and bravery shown during action in South Africa”.
