RECEPTION OF SERVICE VOLUNTEERS.
SANQUHAR.
Last night the two active service Volunteers from Sanquhar were accorded a most hearty reception on their arrival at home. They were met at the station by the Volunteer company and band, the Town Council, and the Reception Committee. A torchlight procession was then formed, and marched through the town, which was nicely illuminated at all convenient points, and a display of fireworks took place immediately afterwards. Later, the men were entertained at supper in the Public Hall, at which over a hundred were present, and gold medals were presented to the service men as souvenirs of their campaign in South Africa. On the one side the medal bears the arms of the Royal burgh, and on the other a suitable inscription.
