PRESENTATION OF GOLD MEDALS TO STRATHDON VOLUNTEERS.

The ceremony of presenting gold medals to Privates DAVIDSON and FARQUHARSON, of B Company, 4th V.B.G.H., in recognition of their services in South Africa, took place in the Lonach Hall on Wednesday evening. Additional interest was lent to the ceremony by the presentation being made by an officer who has himself lately returned from the front – Colonel Burrell, of the West Surrey Regiment. Colonel Burrell expressed his warm admiration of the patriotic conduct of Privates DAVIDSON and FARQUHARSON, and said that he considered them well worthy of the honour of the valuable badges of distinction which their friends and comrades conferred on them by his hands. The colonel also congratulated the corps on their winning the Davies Cup, and emphasised the necessity of close and hard practice in shooting. On presenting the medals to the men, Colonel Burrell shook hands with them, amid a scene of enthusiasm such as the Lonach Hall has rarely witnessed. A large number of the volunteers were present under the command of Lieutenants Christie and Wattie. A full house had gathered to witness Calder’s cinematograph, and the presentation took place at an interval in the programme. Colonel Burrell was introduced by Lieutenant Christie, and Private Davidson made a suitable reply on behalf of his comrade and himself.
