957 Trooper Norman James McKINNON (absent - serving in South Africa)

Presented to Trooper McKinnon's sister, Mrs A.G. Perry.
 
 
Each was handed a gold medal, on which was inscribed words testifying to the high esteem in which they were held by their fellow townspeople, and also letters which applauded their valour in volunteering to go to the front, and which expressed the hope that they would return.

Yesterday afternoon at the office Spring Street the hon. secretary, Mr Atkinson, made presentations to Privates EASTLAUGH [sic] and BAKER, on behalf of the residents of the Tweed River. These members of the contingent were each handed a gold medal, on which was inscribed words testifying to the high esteem in which they were held by their fellow townspeople, and also letters which applauded their valour in volunteering to go to the front, and which expressed the hope that they would return. Mr Atkinson made the presentation with a suitable speech, and Mr Henry Badgery, in the course of a few remarks, complimented the two men then present, and alluded In a eulogistic way to the other members of the contingent.

Mrs A.G. Perry, of Taylor Street, Parramatta, has received from the residents of the Tweed River (on behalf of her brother, Norman McKINNON, who left for South Africa with the 4th Contingent of Lancers), a handsome gold medal commemorative of the occasion. All the Tweed lads received similar medals. Trooper McKINNON was at one time a compositor in “The Argus” Office.
