Welcomed Back.
The Sons and Daughters of St George gave a reception to Pte. Stephen C. COURT, a Son of St George, who went through the Transvaal campaign with the first Canadians, and who was present at Paaredberg, and at the reception the returned soldier was made the recipient of a fine gold watch and chain, the watch being suitably engraved with the monogram of Pte. COURT on the back and a flag, and the word “Paardeberg” on the reverse, while inside was an appropriate inscription. This was from the Sons of St George, and the Daughters of St George gave him a fine gold locket as a token of their respect, also suitably engraved. Pte. COURT, in reply to District Officer W.H. Price and Sister Greenhaugh, who made the presentations, delivered a short speech, telling of some Transvaal experiences, and thanking the givers. A short programme was then given to which Mr P. Richardson, W.H. Pennock, Lieut. Clarke, R.C.R., H. Taylor, R.N., Miss Nash and Mrs Davis contributed, and then after refreshments were served on a well decorated table, shaped like a St George’s cross with red and white cloth, in keeping with the flag colors, the gathering dispersed, singing as the meeting broke up, “For He's a Jolly Good Fellow”, in honor of Pte. COURT.
