A SOLDIER’S WELCOME HOME.
At the Cross Keys Inn on Saturday evening last, a splendid supper of stewed goat and pan pie was served to about 40 persons who gathered together for the purpose of giving a welcome home to Private S. STANSFIELD, of the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, who enlisted about ten years ago and has spent about nine years in India, during which time he has been active service on two occasions. After the repast a very enjoyable social evening was spent, during which Private STANSFIELD was presented with a silver albert and pendant, on behalf of the company, by Mr R.T. Fielden, in a few well-chosen remarks. The recipient acknowledged the testimonial in a very feeling manner. The rest of the evening was spent in singing, reciting, &c., the whole being brought to a conclusion by a hearty vote of thanks to the landlady, Mrs Howorth, and to Mr F. Howorth, at eleven o’clock. The chair was occupied by Mr S. Harrison.
