During the night Colonel Plumer sent a squad to reconnoitre the enemy’s west flank. At 6. 30 the patrol was within 800 yards of Spitzkop standing isolated on the plain two miles north-west of the Boer Laager. The enemy were found in strength on and around Spitzkop. p7c The Mahratta arrived at Cape Town yesterday. The Ranee arrived at Natal on Mar 28. The Siberian arrived at Las Palmas on Wednesday.
p13a & b The Goth leaves Southampton today with 20 officers and 600 men of the 4/Gloucester Regiment, under Lieutenant Colonel Lord Bathurst for St Helena. The Goth will also carry camp equipment, including tents, bedding, cooking utensils, hospital stores and food supplies for St Helena.
