Raised by Commandant R. La T. Lonsdale, late of the 74th Regiment, for service in the Zulu War of 1879, the unit accompanied the Relief Column sent to Eshowe. 93 Medals were awarded to Lonsdale’s Horse, 79 of them with the ‘1879’ clasp.
