The Cape Colonial Forces (CCF) were the official defence organisation of the Cape Colony in South Africa, established after Britain granted the Colony ‘representative government’ in 1853.
In January 1901, after a second Boer invasion, the Colonial Defence Force (CDF) was formed by the government under Brigadier General Brabant. This force comprised many local town guards and district mounted troops, whose role was local defence, and a some mobile units, under British Army command. In December 1901, the Colonial Defence Force was merged with the Colonial Forces, and named the CCF.
