546 Tpr. William Everard Quested-Natal Carbineers "K" Troop, was born at Isipingo, Natal on the 15 June 1877. Tpr. Quested enrolled on the 21.01.1899 at the age of 21 years. Apprenticed as a Farrier at St George Colliery at Hattingspruit, near Dundee. Promoted to Corporal on 19 September 1901. Promoted Farrier Sergeant 26 April 1905. Resigned on 28 May 1907. End of hostilities returned to St George Colliery and was promoted to Screens Foreman [Coal Mine] He also started farming on a rented farm at Hattingspruit . 1914/1915 he was appointed East Coast Fever Officer at Louwsburg, 40 miles from Vryheid. Natal. Held this position until 1919. On the 17 July 1917, Ardy, married Ciceley Natalia Cunningham at St Peters Church, Vryheid. Family left Louwsburg in about 1922 and moved to the North Coast of Natal and took up the post of Veterinary Officer.1928 moved to Powercourt/Stoney Hill district. Lived there for 13 years. Ardy had two daughters Grey and Cynthia. Ill health took Ardy away from the country to Durban where he worked at Bantu Affairs. When he retired he spent many hours in his workshop,it was here that he made the model of a sugar mill, now housed at the Sugar Research Institute at the Natal University. Ardy died in Durban on the 16 April 1962 at the age of 84 yrs. Ciceley, died in Durban on 13 July 1977 aged 87 yrs.
