Hi Forum

I have a medal group to William Henry Gale, consisting of a QSA Clasps OFS, CC, WW1 Trio name to the SASC-MT, and WW2 War medal and ASM.

William Gale was born in Rockhampton,Queensland Australia, served in the Rhodesia Mounted Police ,but later lived in Cape Town.

His QSA is named to:

W Gale ATchd 45 Coy R.E.S.R.T.

Could anybody help me to understand what this is, and what Roll he may be shown in ?

I was the underbidder on this group and, judging by the input I got from Australian connections, it was probably a good thing!

I don't mean to detract in any way from the group but the consensus of opinion was that the naming on the QSA wasn't typical of the way 1st Contingent Queenslander medals were named. He is also entitled to the clasps Driefontein and the Relief of Kimberley.

That said and done on to your question - I found him on 3 rolls - firstly with the Queensland Mounted Infantry and then with the Provisional Mounted Police (not Rhodesian as claimed by the article although he might well have served with them later)

I'm confused by the naming on the QSA. There is no W Gale on the roll for the REs.

A look at the naming would be great, if possible?
