It is not all bad, I dare say he might have had that example named to himself at some point in his lifetime, his original appears to have been issued on the 13th of February 1903, interestingly, he is shown in WO100/290 as also having served with the Orange River Colony Police, the OFS clasp appears to have been crossed out.
A look at his other medals and any medal cards in Pretoria would be well worth it here I feel

It's a great pity that the QSA is so obviously renamed. It would have been a rather decent group otherwise.

Yes you are all right.

Closer inspection shows that the rim has been filed down at the top near the attachment of the suspender.

Such is life sometimes !
