I would be pleased to know whether anyone is aware of a diary, letters, regimental record or brief notes on the service of the 9th Battery, RA, with particular reference to the four guns which served in General Stewart Beatson's Column in the Eastern Transvaal in 1901. All existing secondary material is so frighteningly sparse. Primary material of infantry and MI who served in Beatson's column is very useful in that the gunners were always turning up to relieve pressure on the MI and the infantry by an enemy that made the most of the high ground, and the PBI were always most grateful for their valuable contribution which invariably chased the Boers off, but are there regimental (or battery) records known by anyone?

One would love to hear that there is a diary similar to that of Bombardier Walter Mitton of the 39th Battery, RFA, which is so helpful for the role of the RA in the OFS in 1900.
