Good Afternoon Everyone......

Was checking a name against the list that I have shown below of a QSA that has come up for sale to a member of the 1st Battalion Durham Light Infantry.....

I check every time one comes up just in case he is on the list and I would try to purchase......

Just wondering if any of you have a DLI medal that may be on the list.......

Mike

Hi QSAMike,

I only now stumbled across this post; I have very recently acquired a QSA medal to Pte Bernard Milligan, 4011, to the DLI. In fact it is still enroute from the USA.

Looks like he served under Sgt Flowers whilst enroute to South Africa in 1899.

In addition it looks like only 2x DLI were wounded in the Battle of Colenso; Sgt Flowers and Pte Milligan.

Since Sgt Flowers was wounded by shell splinters it's possible that Pte Milligan was as well (the DLI were in reserve); maybe by the same shell?

Sgt Flowers, as per your post, was sent to Cape Town to heal and Pte Milligan with his slight wounds remained in the field and fought at Tugela Heights.

Here is a picture of his tomestone in Australia (Rookwood NSW); note the service number refers to his re-enlistment number from WW1 where he attained the rank of Sgt:

Note: I can't figure out the reference to the ribbon given by Queen Victoria in February; she passed away in Jan 1901.
Speak my name so that I may live again
