Hi, welcome to the forum. There are a couple of us on the forum that have a specific interest in the Natal Mounted Police/Natal Police. The Natal Mounted Police (NMP) was amalgamated with other of the Colony’s law-enforcement and prisons agencies to form the Natal Police (NP) in the early 1890s so your grandfather would have been in the NP if he was discharged in 1903 after 2.5 years of service. The NP was often still referred to as the NMP.

If you give us your grandfather's name we can check the Boer War medal rolls for his name.

There is some info on this forum on the NP:
www.angloboerwar.com/south-african-units...rs-police-and-guides

The complete unit history is also on the forum:
www.angloboerwar.com/books/52-holt-mounted-police-of-natal

Cheers,

Mark
