:) Hi Adrian
Tkx for the reply on Corpl Buchan,
I note your Cape Police trio pic...........
I recently acquired an ABW QSA / KSA Pair to a Tpr Kleingeld CP, the naming on both medals have a degree of damage by someone trying to erase the recipient's name.
thankfully unsuccessfully. Have you any reference or medal roll copies relating to this trooper?
Tkx for your info contribution, much appreciated
Evyn

Hello Evyn,

I don't have a copy of his CP papers at home but in the Cape Archives there is a set of papers to a Jan Kleingeld who re attested into the CP in May 1903 with the Regimental number of 350, could be him.

What are the initials on your QSA and KSA.

Evyn,

Forgot to mention and I don't wish to be the bearer of any bad news but there was a Pte J.M Kleingeld who served in CP Dist 1 and who qualified for the CGHGS medal with the Bechuanaland clasp.

His Regimental number was at this time 65 but very often a man would, upon re attesting be given the number of a man that had recently taken his discharge for what ever reason. I suspect then that this is the one and same man. This actually all fits in quite nicely as he would have attested initially in 1897 for 3 years, served in the Bechuanaland Campaign re attested in 1900 for a further 3 years and again in 1903 for a further 3 years. The set of papers in the Archive will confirm his previous service in the CP if indeed it is the same man.

Hi Evyn sorry i know this is an old post. I have just joined this site as i was looking for my Great Grandfather Jan Mechiel Kleingeld who was in the Cape Private Mounted Police or Cape Police and i came accross this post. My Great Grandfather died at the age of 39 and 10 months in 1907. Im still not sure of his date of Birth but i do know he was based in Newbethesda Cape Colony around 1904.

Hello Carol,

I have some details on him here. The page that I have confirms date of birth as 23 September 1867 and that he died of "Paralysis of the Bowels" on the 25 March 1907 (How terrible)

I shall do a bit of a cut and paste quickly and you can confirm if its the correct chap.

Thanks
Adrian
