There is an interesting page in WO100/301 (duplicated in WO100/371) that records the issue of the QSA to Mr E R Henry, CSI. The unit name is given as the Criminal Investigation Department.
His is the only name on the roll. I wonder if this sole unit entitlement is unique?
While he was a CSI at the time of the Boer War, Mr Henry went on to bigger and better things, serving as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police. He was a proponent of finger printing and his book on the subject, reprinted several times, lists the author as Sir E R Henry, Bt GCVO, KCB, CSI.
WO100/301 is where the FID men can be found. I wonder why the page was labeled as the CID and whether the medal was named in that way?
Any information on the CID will be added to the unit page
