Hello Everyone

I am busy with research on the soldiers who had lost their lives during the Anglo-Boer War. I came across a photo of 2nd Lieut G.H. Martin, King's Royal Rifles i]The Navy & Army Illustrated, Nov 18th, 1899[/i who also died during the war but I cannot find him on any list with names.

Elmarie,

I believe he was wounded rather than killed at Talana.

Elmarie,

Yes, I believe so. He was left behind in Dundee after the battle and was moved to Pretoria when his wounds allowed. It would make sense that he was released in June 1900 with the other officers.

Here is the list of Lieutenants in the KRRC in 1902. There is only one Martin.

I looked for a diary for him online but failed to find anything, sadly.

Best wishes
David

Hi

Palmer, The Boer War Casualty Roll, at page 452 only refers to Second Lieutenant G H Martin, 1 KRRC, as having been wounded at Dundee on 20 October 1899 and does not refer to him having died subsequently in another entry, as Palmer sometimes does.

By the way I know of a spare copy of Palmer, which the possessor would no doubt be prepared to send to the museum in Bloemfontein if it does not already have a copy. Please let me know.

Best regards

Peter Jordi
