I have just acquired a QSA to 12 Tpr. W Oosthuizen of the Uniondale DMT and on checking the roll found at least 2 of his comrades KIA on the above date.

Does anyone know what happened and where?

SAFF for that period shows Pte. Stewart, S (Killed), Fisher J.P. (Killed), Rensburg, P (Sl.Wd) and Muller H (sl.Wd) at Oudtshoorn on 17/9/01. As they were members of the CDF, I assume the action took place in the Cape. There was a series of actions around Oudtshoorn in Sept.1901 during the pursuit of Theron. Suggest a study of Maurice Vol.4 pages 283-284 and deeper research might reveal more.

That's very interesting IL. Stewart is on the Uniondale DMT roll so it can be supposed that they were attached to the CDF and in action in the Oudtshoorn area on that date.

Maurice relates a series of actions in and about the mentioned area during the pursuit of Theron's commando in September 01. Maurice also mentions that a certain Lt/Col. Burke was "in command of the local troops in this district" - which lends support to any supposition that local CDF lads were on duty (or even part of) the main British columns.
