Is there anyone here with knowledge about the 2nd Rifle Brigade.....
I am doing some research, as much as I can, on a group that contains the following.......
SUDAN / QSA / KSA / KHEDIVES MEDAL (NO BAR)
I have the medal rolls and his enlistment documents and some hand written notes where someone before me has stated "Sudan Medal received from Queen Victoria"..... I guessed that there had been some sort of medal parade which is known to have been done in the past where HRH gave out medals...... But I cannot find any record of that happening..... Does anyone with knowledge about the RB confirm or not this happening......
Thanks in advance.....
Will post research after it is finished.....

Many years ago I had a similar group (to Pte. Boston, WiA, South Rand Mine) and the limited research I was able to get done at the time gave little help. I could not even find out why he was not entitled to a clasp/clasps for his KSM. Later, I heard of the annual Rifle Brigade Chronicles. At least, I think they were annuals. Doubtless, another more conversant with them can confirm. Had there been a medal parade by HRH to present Sudan medals to 2RB it would probably be mentioned in the editions of 1899-1902. Hopefully, your man was at any such medal parade.
I have a copy of the Rifle Brigade Chronicle for 1900 but there's no mention of anything connected with the Sudan campaign. My guess is any detail on the presentation of Sudan medals would be in the 1899 edition.
The RBCs aren't uncommon and my 1900 copy is a mine of detailed information on the main ABW battles the RB fought in. I bought it some years ago at a militaria fair and it only cost me £30 at a time when regimental hisories were fetching £150-£200. I've had a look through the current stock of Turner & Donovan, who are probably the main military history book specialists in the UK, but they currently don't have a copy. You could check other military history booksellers and ask any of them to let you know if they get a copy in.
