I came across NB in an address on a Driscoll's Scouts attestation paper yesterday.

In case anyone comes across the same, the abbreviation NB stood for North Britain, which was an occasional designation used instead of Scotland until a century ago.

No wonder it did not catch on!

North Britain can supposedly include the northern part of England too, but I've only ever come across it as a reference to Scotland.

I wonder if Scots ever used NB instead of Scotland when writing an address, or if it was just the English.

I'm not sure where the dividing line is :)

I did see talk of referring to Ireland as West Britain which I'm sure would have gone down well!

Perhaps anywhere north of Watford was considered to be North Britain!

Yes, some certainly did, I've seen it on a number of occasions down the years.
