I have been looking at the nominal roll for the Corps of Cattle Rangers as it has 512 names and contains start date, end date, reason for leaving and place of attestation.

The earliest attestation date was 12 April 1901 and latest was 12 November 1901. The earliest discharge was 31 May 1901 and latest was 23 March 1902. The average number of days service was 163 or about 5 and a half months.

The distribution of ranks:

2/Lt - 1

Grand Total = 512

The reasons for leaving the corps:

Discharged Own Request - 8
Fraud - 24
Imprisoned & disbanded - 2

Mutiny - 17
Transferred - 2
Transferred to General Rundle's Column - 1

(blank) - 27
Grand Total = 512

That is great input David.
Is it possible to pull information as to whether or not they attested from other units. The reason I ask is there are numerous references to Cattlemen coming off the transport ships from South & North America in the papers and archives. Most of these reference relate to mutiny and rates of pay so I doubt it. I attach some pages from PMB Archives I copied when last I was there. Just interested.
