I am attempting to find out how the 8th Battalion KRRC was involved in the Boer war.
I have an envelope sent from Carlow in June 1901 to "Private Sylvester Kehoe, 2nd Battalion KRRC, Natal Field Force,South Africa."
Th envelope was redirected to Rawal Pindi, India, then to Gosport Depot and then to 8th Battalion Kings Royal Rifles, Carlow Ireland.
I'm assuming that Pt. Kehoe was a member of the Carlow Militia which became the 8th Battalion KRRC. Did the 8th Battalion join with the 2nd Battalion KRRC at the start of the war or were they a separate unit? How was the 8th Battalion deployed during the war?
Any information would be gratefully received.
John
