I am working on the SAFF casualty roll to add the names to the site.

I am trying to identify to which Town Guard these men were linked. The SAFF list them as TG men and I cannot find them on the Ancestry index.

Bryan, C, Private. Wounded
Davies, J H N, Private. Wounded
Sutherland, A, Private. Wounded
Venish, H, Private. KIA. Appears in In Memorial but lacking details
Webb, W E A, Private. Wounded

Any help would be much appreciated.

From FMP David......

They were all in Phillippolis Town Guard according to them and it looked like they used the same source......

That makes sense, Mike. I had not considered that could have come from a unit that received no medals.

One of the reasons to restrict medals to TG units was that they were not engaged in the war but that would be a difficult case to argue for these Philippolis men.

Many thanks
David

For the casualty roll on FMP I made that assumption they were from the Philippolis Town Guard - it was a siege, which other TG would they come from as TGs only operated in their town - they did not venture out - that was for District Mounted Troops.

For whatever there doesn't appear to a roll for the Philippolis Town Guard - may be it was not formally recognised by the military in November 1900?

The TG roll covering the letter P, (WO100/284) goes from Petrusberg TG to Pietersburg TG - there don't appear to be any missing pages.
