Natal Mounted Police
Discharged with ignominy
9 February 1901
Cape Police District I

Discharge with ignominy suggests he did something very wrong.

The writing before the number says the medal was returned to the depot 9 January 1907, usually because the man could no longer be contacted

The marginal notation looks like "Discharged with ignominy, 9.3? 01 Cape Police (District) 1".
The other lines appear to read "Kings Medal returned to A.O.O.S 9.1.07 not entitled. ". "Medal and clasps CC 01-02 awaiting issue. No address." The "yes" appears to relate to a clasp entitlement.
Regards
IL.

Here's my word for the day. It is a trade. Looks like Rangman?

Any suggestions, much appreciated.

The word 'rangeman' turns up amongst farmer and slaughterer in some early twentieth century American trade reports. Perhaps Canadian too? www.google.com/search?biw=1204&bih=467&e...=5#spf=1583073711278

Found this one - "The livestock rangemen in the western two-fifths of the Nation produce cattle …." www.google.com/search?biw=1204&bih=466&e...=5#spf=1583073940781

So someone who worked with cattle on farms, or on the open ranges, as in 'Home, home on the range.'
