Calling all Anglo Boer War Experts.
I am trying to do a little research on a member of the Mafeking Town Guard. His name was Trooper James Westland. I believe he was at the defence of Mafeking. I think he moved on to Mafeking Dist Mtd Troops (Reg no 129) Then to Kitchener's Fighting Scouts ( Reg no 973) Then on to 1st Kitchener's Fighting Scouts as a Corporal. Trying to ascertain his clasp entitlement, medal rolls rather confusing? any other details on him would be great.
Your expert knowledge will be very much appreciated...……….best regards Dave F

Some time ago, Colin Walker published "The Mafeking Siege Register"; based upon siege editions of the Mafeking Mail and other sources. There are a couple of references under the heading "J. Westland, Town Guard". I don't know whether they are the same person. The first is "Westland J.S." on the Mafeking Siege Slip roll and then there is a "Westland J.E., civilian on the day war broke out being struck off the Town Guard for Gross Misconduct (confirmed by Mafeking Municipality notice 13 of 11/10/99 and Siege Slip 71 15/2)".
I had a brief trawl through the appropriate rolls looking for any middle initial for "J.Westland" and no luck.
Do you have Westland's medal and if so was it named to KFS?
Regards
IL.

Many thanks for your information, very much appreciated. Westlands Medal is attributed to the Town Guard.
The medal rolls for his regiments are crossed out and changed against his name. Will try and photograph the anomalies sand post later.
best regards

Medal Rolls for Trooper Westland, your expert help will be most appreciated. Possible recipient of DoM, CC, T, OFS.
Clarification on the added notes on the roll would be helpful...Cheers Dave F
