PRESENTATION TO THE DUNDEE STATION MASTER
Mr S.J. Biddington, of the N.G.R., who accompanied the 13th and the 69th Batteries of Royal Field Artillery into action at the battle of Talana, evidently rendered them valuable service. A few days ago he received a handsome silver tray, with the following communication from Major Wing:-
Eland's Laagte, April 7
Dear Mr. Biddington, - The officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of the 13th and 69th Batteries, Royal Field Artillery, hope that you will accept a tray as a small token of their appreciation of your great kindness to them on the 20th of October last, at the battle of Talana Hill. We have been waiting to ascertain your address, and only heard of it to-day. Will you kindly let me know if the address to which this letter is sent is the one you would like the tray sent to. - I remain, yours truly,
F.T. Wing,
Major Commanding 69th Battery, R.F.A.
The tray is about 23 in. in diameter and of several pounds in weight. It is also of a chaste design and artistically engraved, and bears the following inscription :
"Presented to Mr. S.J. Biddington, by the officers , non commissioned officers and men of the 13th and 69th Batteries, Royal Field Artillery, in memory of the battle of Talana Hill, 20th October 1899."
Anyone know the whereabouts of this tray ?
