Gordon12,

The National Archives are digitising some of their more popular records and placing these online but the attestation papers for the Boer War are not part of this plan so we are still reliant, for now at least on visits for these records.

Yes, when the medal sold, it contains the four clasps Elandslaagte, Defence of Ladysmith, Cape Colony and Orange State. A slightly odd aspect of it was that it was named to Corporal. It sold for £60.

I have looked for any other clasps or a KSA and not found any so this appears to be his full entitlement for the Boer War.

Best wishes
David

The bad penny returns with apologies, I see you say the medal sold with 4 clasps but not the Tr. clasp. So as it was mentioned I assume he was entitled to it, so if somehow I manage to find a medal to replace his, then should it have that clasp .

Once again, Many thanks.

Gordon12,

I would say that it could be included because his entitlement to the clasp is supported by the rolls. You could either decide to find a medal with the 4 clasps with which he was issued or a medal with the 5 clasps that he earned.

You could choose to buy a replica medal with copy clasps which might cost you £60 or look for an original QSA with those clasps (which are not that common because of his service record) which would cost at least 10 times that amount. A third option would be to make up a medal with those clasps using an erased QSA which would cost somewhere around £200-300. Dealers like Chris Dixon can undertake the work very well for the third option.

Best wishes

Gordon12,

I have those papers up to mid alphabet but not the Ps. I have it on my list for the next National Archives visit.

Kind regards
