Would anyone be able to provide some information about a man with an unusual surname, who may/may not be a relative of a friend of mine?
Private P Kisner 65B/2068 served in the Connaught Rangers in the 9th Frontier War, until he deserted.
He is on the South Africa General Service medal roll. Can anyone tell me his first name? When did he joined up, and when did he desert? What bars on the SAGS was he entitled to, and as a deserter would he have collected his medal?
I note the Connaughts [88th Regt of Foot] were deployed from India to SA in 1877 for the 9th Frontier War 1877-79 and Zulu War 1879, before returning to India in 1879. I wonder if Pte Kisner was in SA and joined them there? Maybe deserting before going to India?
many thanks in advance
Rob
