Thank you for your information. Where do I find the "Smith Roll" please? I haven't come across this one I don't think.
My A. E. Nolan service number is 259. He checks out o.k. and I have all his details. He was invalided home, reception in Uralla on arrival, etc.
A. Nowland was listed separately in an article 26.02.1900 to A. E. Nolan. He was listed as a cook in A Sqn whereas A. E. Nolan was listed as a trooper in C Sqn. Up until this point I did think they were the same person.
I will check out these Smith rolls though, thank you. You have that he was on the roll but did not embark, so the protest re him going may well have been upheld in that case.
