So 14/40 shown with same clasps.

You would have thought it would be 80% instead of 40% if the regt was kept together ?

Hi Wayne
That was just a few pages to show the same clasp entitlement, if you tab along the Ancestry roll for the Cornwall's there are quite a few more with the same clasp award. Perhaps, as you mentioned, the split of the regiment may have included those chaps whose companies were attached to other battalions. Have you researched the DCLI pertaining to the actions of Diamond Hill & Belfast? Might be some clues on what company's were present.

Dave.....

Hi Wayne,

If you have Findmypast his attestation papers are available.

A real Cornish man 3030 Private Thomas Danning was born in Liskeard , Cornwall in1871.
Attested to the DOCLI at Bodmin on 16/10/1889 aged 18years.
A miner by trade he was 5'5" and 125 pounds in weight. Chest measurement 32 1/2".
Fair complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair.
Wesleyan religion.
He was considered unfit for service due to his undersize chest, but clearly this was overcome.

Next of kin were parents John and Mary Ann.
Younger brothers John, William, George, Ben.

Thomas was married to Emmalena with whom he had a son James.

He was also entitled to India General service medal with clasps Punjab Frontier and Tirah.
So maybe chance of a reunite.

I hope you find this info useful.

Cheers Steve
