Neville, that is a great photo of the German Corps. I wonder if the man in your picture in front with a short jacket with a Kaiser Wilhelm type moustache may be von Brusewitz?
In this photo, the men have "German" appearances (wear a partial uniform, carry Boer Mauser carbines, have a very broad brim to their hat).

Rob, here are a couple of close-ups of the fellows in your last post but one ...

This photograph is pasted to the verso of the leaf that depicts the captioned "Mitglieder des Deutschen Korps" (my last post). However, Wichmann does not label these guys as German. Instead, he simply writes: "Buren-Abteilung. Im Hintergrund Spions kopje von Norden ges."

Rompel, p. 123 gives this image the caption: "THE HEROES OF SPION KOP. A division of volunteers who took part in the recapture of Spion Kop (24 and 25 January 1900)".

A couple of the men are armed with Martini-Henry rifles - I don't know if that is relevant.

From the album of Majoor Friedrich Wilhelm von Wichmann

German Corps near Ladysmith. Note as before, partial uniforms and carbines.
What is the decoration at the throat of the man on the left?
Photo thanks to MC Heunis.

Rob,

I see what you mean about the uniforms - they certainly have a Germanic, perhaps even Bavarian look about them ...!

Here is a close-up of the man with the Kaiser Bill moustache. He is identified by Brian Pottinger as Paul Adolph KRANTZ, who "on December 17 1899 managed to edge Von Quitzow out of his command position and became what he had always wanted to be - commander of the German Corps. Von Quitzow mounted his horse and set off back for Johannesburg - convinced that only pain and humiliation awaited the German units" (Pottinger 1986, p. 120).
I'm not so sure about this ID, as the photos in Malan 1990 (p. 98) show a man with a different style of moustache and no beard. The very long nose, on the other hand, is similar. See post below. What do you think?

Rob, I'm sure you know this one ... some of these officers appear in the image in your last post. Krantz can also be seen standing third from left in the photograph in your second post.

This photograph (Jacques Malan 1990, p. 98) depicts the officers of the German Corps at Ladysmith.

Back row: Frans Heinrich BEHNKE; Lt. HARDER; Kapt. Schmitz DUMONT; Lt. Carl SCHIEL.
Middle row: Lt. Von JURTRSZENKA; Kmdt. Paul KRANTZ; Owerste Von BRAUN; Lt. Von BRUSEWITZ; Lt. Von LOCKSTEDT; Lt. Von TROTHA.
Front row: Lt. BIRNBACHER; Lt. ERDMANN.
