Hi

Is there an Orton mentioned in the index? Thomas Henry Orton, known as Harry who I believe was struck by lightening.

Thanks and Regards
Helen

Hi Helen and welcome to the Forum.

Thomas Henry Orton does not appear in the index of the book. However, I have found his attestation papers, service record & discharge papers on Find My Past and his appearance on two medals rolls for the 1st Battalion, KOSB.

His service number was 5450. He was born in Atherstone, Warwickshire. Before he enlisted his occupation was a barber. He embarked for SA on 4th January 1900 and began his home journey on 19th November 1901. He was discharged from the army on 11th March 1903 on the following grounds: "Being found medically unfit for further service through Epilepsy". The medal rolls show he was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with 4 clasps - "Paaderberg", "Johannesburg", "Cape Colony" & "South Africa 1901".

Regards, David.
